Implementation of Strategic Privacy Plan

The Utah Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) is diligently advancing the State of Utah Strategic Privacy Plan, a pivotal framework crafted under Governor Cox's Executive Order 2023-06. This comprehensive initiative underscores the CPO's commitment to safeguarding privacy in the digital age and aligns with the state's broader vision for responsible data governance. As the custodian of privacy interests, the CPO's dedicated efforts are geared towards fostering transparency, accountability, and innovation while ensuring the protection of individual privacy rights.

State Agency Privacy Engagement

Agencies are partners in the privacy plan and can request assistance and resources from the CPO as needed in furtherance of the plans goals and objectives. Below are some resources identified in the plan that the CPO is providing to agencies.

State Privacy Committee: Agencies are required to designate a single representative to participate in the monthly State Privacy Committee in which specific aspects of the plan are being executed, including the prioritization and creation of standardized privacy policies, templates and associated procedures.

Quarterly Records and Privacy Management Workshops: The State Archivist and CPO have partnered to provide quarterly statewide workshops that all CAOs, records officers and privacy personnel are invited to participate to learn more about their respective responsibilities and resources available to achieve success.

Agency Training: Agencies may request privacy training from the CPO for specific agency program staff to ensure staff are aware of their privacy obligations and resources available to assist in fulfilling their responsabilities.
